Happy Monday, beauties! I cannot believe how quickly the weekend flew by - it seems like Monday always approaches too soon. I had an exam today on top of mounds of coursework, but this NYX haul I got through Ulta's buy 2 get 1 free NYX sale has certainly cured my case of the Monday blues!
As I've previously mentioned, I'm a huge NYX fangirl. This sale was too tempting for me to pass up, especially considering I got three of these products completely for free! I cannot wait to play around with these products and do more in-depth reviews of them in the future, but for now I figured I'd do a quick post on my first impressions of these products.
I recently posted my review of the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks, where I raved over these products. In case you missed it last time, you can buy these lipsticks at Ulta for $6.99. I love the formula of these liquid lipsticks because they aren't super harsh and drying on my poor lips. I'm a sucker for vampy colors, so I couldn't resist picking up the shades Oh, Put it On and Subversive Socialite. Since I'm always drawn toward dark tones, my lipstick is severely lacking in the pink department, so I figured I'd pick up the shade Tea & Cookies for good measure (and fo' free!) as well.
Sorry for the quality of these swatches - I find that, like winged eyeliner, they quickly get out of hand when I try to correct my mistakes. Oh, Put it On is a blackened blueberry shade. It appears black/very deep purple upon initial inspection, but when sheered out it is the color of a true blueberry, which I find very satisfying. Tea & Cookies is a neutral pink shade that appears to pull somewhat cool-toned. I think it would be flattering on a variety of skin tones. Subversive Socialite is a deep violet shade that seems to be very similar to the shade "Tempress" in NYX's line of their Simply Vamp Lip Creams. I don't find myself reaching for those lipsticks as much since they're not a liquid formula, so I'm excited to have a liquid lipstick in a deep plum shade.
I also decided to try out the NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks during this sale after hearing fantastic reviews about them from tons of people. You can buy these lipsticks at Ulta for $6.99. This line of lipsticks is interesting as it only includes shades that qualify as "my lips but better" shades that are flattering for a variety of skin tones. My collection was seriously lacking in the neutral shade range, so I was excited to test some of these out. However, if you're looking for a liquid lipstick line with more shade variety, this probably isn't the liquid lipstick line for you.
These lipsticks appear to have a consistency more similar to a "true" thin liquid lipstick, as opposed to the thicker, creamier Liquid Suede lipsticks. As such, application can be a bit patchy initially, but this is easily fixed by applying a second coat.
I was slightly disappointed to find that Bedtime Flirt and Ruffle Trim are very similar shades. However, there are subtle differences; Ruffle Trim appears to be more of an orange-y terra cotta shade while Bedtime Flirt appears to be more of a pinky greige shade. Teddy pulls very brown on my skin tone which is slightly intimidating, but I think it will pair nicely with a bunch of different eyeshadow looks and I look forward to the challenge of making it work for me!
I also was excited to try out the NYX Liquid Crystal Liners. NYX frequently posts looks that people create using these liners on their Instagram, so I couldn't help but give in to my temptation to buy them. You can purchase these liners at Ulta for $4.49.
These liners were smaller than I expected, but that's my fault for not paying attention to the size listed on Ulta's website. For this price, you get 0.17 oz of product. I'm not sure how great of a deal this is since I don't often buy liners like this, but those are the facts if you'd like to do the math yourself!
After swatching these, I realized that these liners are truly gorgeous. Crystal Silk is a gold liner with gold sparkles, while crystal onyx is a dark gray to black liner with silver sparkles. The applicator is nice and thin which will make it easy to create really detailed liner looks or add a small pop of sparkle underneath my everyday winged liner. Crystal Silk is fairly sheer on its own, so I think I'm going to try to layer it on top of a darker shade of liner in order to add a little extra sparkle party to my eyelids!
Finally, I purchased the NYX Vivid Brights Eyeliner in the shade Vivid Envy. I struggle with incorporating color into my everyday eye makeup, so since I could get one more product for free, I decided to try this liner out. You can buy this at Ulta for $6.99.
I chose this shade because I figured it would be the most flattering against my hazel eyes. However, when I received the liner in the mail, I was initially super intimidated by how blindingly BRIGHT the tube was! I was also a bit confused about why the applicator of this liner was so ungodly long. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the brush itself was thin, just as the applicator for the liquid crystal liners was. But I'm still perplexed about why the handle for the brush is that long when it really serves no purpose other than to make storing this liner a pain.
Upon swatching, I realized that the shade Vivid Envy isn't a terrifying highlighter green like the packaging implies, but rather it is a nice khaki-green shade that I think will be easy to work with. I'm excited to push myself to work creatively with it!
Overall, I'm incredibly happy with my NYX haul! More detailed reviews of these products will come in the future. Did you pick up anything in the NYX sale at Ulta? What are your favorite NYX products?
