Happy Friday, loves!
2017 is quickly approaching; as such I wanted to compile a list of my favorite makeup products that made their debut this year. As far as I'm aware all of these products were released in 2016, but if I'm incorrect at least take comfort in the fact that they were totally new to me this year. 2016 was a year marked by rose gold, matte liquid lipsticks, and highlight bright enough to see from outer space. Trust that you will find these staples in my 2016 picks!
Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in Be My Highlight: Guys. This highlighter completely knocks it out of the park, and it's only $4.50! This highlighter gives me the most natural glow out of all of the others in my collection. It's a pale champagne highlight that lacks any chunky glitter that is offputting to so many people. It is just subtle enough to emit a natural glow but can also be built up to pack more of a punch. It is more powdery than any of my Anastatsia, Becca, or Colourpop highlighters, but I don't experience any fallout nonetheless. The pan is also massive so it will likely be buried with me in my grave. Totally a worthwhile investment.
Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Weenie: Colourpop released this shadow in one of their collaborations with Kathleen Lights earlier this year. Kathleen Lights is my favorite beauty guru so I had high hopes for this shadow. I have to say, this shadow is one of the most gorgeous rose gold shadows I've ever seen! It is metallic with flecks of silver and gold sparkles interspersed and looks stunning on the lid. It can be paired with a neutral crease shade for a simple everyday look or deepened up for a more sultry sparkly night time look. This shade in particular is so creamy and pigmented with just one swipe. I seriously cannot get over it!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Plath: This was a new shade included in Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lip holiday set, but luckily Kat recently teased that it will be added to her permanent collection in 2017! Kat herself coined this shade as a "chocolate cherry red" and that just about hits the nail on the head. It is an absolutely gorgeous burnt red shade that can work as a bold nude or a statement color on its own. The Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line is one of the most comfortable formulas of liquid lipsticks that I've tried out. I'll likely be doing a review of the holiday set in an upcoming post so I'll spare details about the formula for now, but trust that it gets my stamp of approval.
Above are swatches - from top to bottom: Essence Pure Nude Highlighter, Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Weenie, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Plath. I wanted to include two angles so that you could see how the light hits the highlighter and in the sparkle in the eyeshadow in different ways. So much dimension!
Make Up Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation: I was sent this foundation free for review as part of a past Influenster VoxBox and was actually surprised by how much I love it. It provides medium to high coverage but doesn't feel heavy on my skin and looks very natural. It doesn't cling to any of my dry patches either which is huge for my dehydrated skin. I use it on days where I have discoloration/acne that I need to cover a bit, but still want my skin to breathe. My one complaint is that it seems to make my t-zone slightly oily if I don't set it with powder - I've never experienced this with any other foundation so that's kind of strange. One of the first posts I ever made was a more comprehensive review on this foundation, so you can read more about it here.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette: This likely comes as no surprise since everyone and their mother talked about this palette this year, but the hype was truly deserved. This palette is impeccable. It includes all of the shades you need to create comprehensive, gorgeous warm-toned looks. The shadows are all creamy and blend better than any other shadows I've tried. They're also all incredibly pigmented - including all of the mattes that are often patchy from other brands. I'm shocked that I have not hit pan on this palette yet as I use it multiple times a week, but I can rest assured that when the day where I hit pan inevitably comes I can replace this palette, as it's now a part of ABH's permanent collection. This is my #1 makeup product from 2016.
There you have it! These are my picks for the best makeup to debut in 2016. What products were you loving the most this year? Be sure to comment below as I love reading about people's picks!
