It's finally Friday, everyone! AND it's a long weekend here in the US! I hope you all had a fantastic week and are looking forward to a weekend of relaxation.
Today I'm going to be reviewing the Kat Von D Everlasting Mini Liquid Lipstick set. This was a set released for the holidays that my kind boyfriend so generously gifted me. I really love mini lipstick sets because they give you an opportunity to test out brands/shades you normally wouldn't go for. I really love KVD products but haven't had the opportunity to try many of her liquid lipsticks because their cost is a bit steep for me. In my humble opinion, this is one of the coolest, most unique lipstick sets due to the huge shade range it included.
This set contains 8 shades of KVD's Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, including two shades (Plath and Roxy) that made their first-time debut in this set. It is actually still available through Sephora's website for $49. Her full size liquid lipsticks are normally $20 for 0.22 oz of product. The mini lipsticks in this set contain 0.1 oz of product, so getting 8 lipsticks for $49 is a pretty decent deal!
The Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks dry down completely matte and are one of the most long-lasting liquid lipsticks I've ever tried. They've held up pretty decently against some greasy meals which is impressive. They don't crack or fade but they do tend to bleed a bit if you eat something and haven't applied lip liner. I do find them to be a teeny tiny bit drying, but they remain pretty comfortable throughout the day. I don't feel like clawing my lips off after a few hours like I do with most other liquid matte lipsticks.
The set contains a variety of colors, from neutrals to reds/pinks to purples/blues. If you're an adventurous lipstick wearer like me, this set will likely be right up your alley!
Echo: This deep navy blue was the shade I was most eager to try out, but unfortunately it fell a bit short for me. The formula was super thin so it was difficult to build up even pigmentation. The swatch on my arm took three layers - and it still wasn't even as even as I'd like it to be. The shade itself is gorgeous, but the formula could use some work.
Roxy: This shade is a bright grape which is totally up my alley. However, like Echo the formula was thin and suuuuper patchy. I tried to layer more product but it just started pulling off the product that I had already applied on my arm. Again, the shade is gorgeous but meh :(
L.U.V.: This is a bright orchid shade that was by far the least impressive in my opinion. It was the most patchy out of all of the shades in this set. I had a really hard building it up to looking as mediocre as it does in the swatch. Again, womp.
Santa Sangre: FINALLY some good news! This is described as a "poison apple" shade which is totally fitting as it reminds me of the poison apple in snow white. It was impressively pigmented with just one swipe to my delight! This will likely become my go-to movie starlet red.
Backstage Bambi: As funny as this sounds, this is the shade I am most terrified of out of all of the ones included in the set! It is a bright-ass Barbie pink that is totally out of my comfort zone. My swatch does not do it justice - in real life it is highlighter pink. Like Santa Sangre, it is pigmented with one swipe. I am nervous but determined to attack my fear of pinks head on with this shade.
Mother: This is a dusty mauve shade that is sooo gorgeous for everyday wear. It's super cool toned and I think it will flatter a wide variety of skin tones. I had no problems with the pigmentation or formula of this shade, and I think I will see myself reaching for it quite often.
Lovesick: This is another mauvey shade that is more gray than Mother. Like Mother, it is another fantastic work-appropriate nude shade. It is suuuper pigmented from the get-go. A total winner in my book.
Plath: I mentioned this shade in my Best Makeup of 2016 post, but I'll recap it here. It's a super rich, deep brown-toned red that Kat described as a "chocolate cherry red". This lipstick is super dramatic on my pale skin and gives off serious 90s vibes. This has the best pigmentation out of all of the dark shades in this set - although it can initially be a bit patchy, it layers with ease. I really love it and am excited for it to be introduced into KVD's permanent collection.
Although a few of the shades were total bummers, I still love this set. I am dedicated to finding a way to make Echo, Roxy, and L.U.V. work since those colors have so much potential. I am happy to have found several lipsticks that have snuck their way into my heart.
Kat Von D also recently announced that a TON of new shades are going to be added to her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick collection in 2017! Here are some lip swatches from Kat's instagram for you to check out:
