Review: Maple Holistics Tea Tree Shampoo

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

I’m back with another review for you all! Today I will be discussing my thoughts on the Maple Holistics Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. Before we dive in, as a disclaimer I want to mention that I did receive this product for free in exchange for an honest review. As always, my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. See more on my Disclaimer page if you're interested.

Maple Holistics is a brand that solely creates natural and organic beauty products. The brand prides themselves on only using pure, high quality ingredients in their products which I find admirable. On top of that, all of their products are made right here in the US and they are cruelty free. Best of all, the brand’s Holistic Promise offers a 100% money-back guarantee if you’re not jiving with one of their products or are unsatisfied with your purchase in any way!

I was sent the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo to test out. This shampoo claims to improve hair and scalp health by clearing away dead skin and soothing scalp blemishes. This is all thanks to tea tree oil’s natural healing properties. I do struggle with dandruff and deal with an itchy scalp that sometimes lead to lesions that scab over (gross, I know – I’m being candid here people!) so this product sounded like a perfect fit for me. I should also mention that my hair is extremely thin and tangles easily, as that will be relevant to a portion of my review.

One of the first things I noticed is that this shampoo is sulfate-free. Sulfates are one of the main ingredients that strip hair color, so I generally gravitate towards sulfate-free hair products to extend the life of my dye jobs. Another thing that stood out to me is that the shampoo is free of parabens. Parabens are known to mimic estrogen in the body and lead to something called estrogen disruption. Estrogen disruption has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues, so I try to steer clear of them as much as I possibly can.

The shampoo does smell quite strongly of tea tree oil. It is not at all unpleasant to me, but if you have aversions to certain odors this may be problematic for you. I did not notice any difference in the Tea Tree Shampoo’s texture compared to the non-natural shampoos I generally use.

The only major discrepancy I found between the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and non-natural competitors is that the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo doesn’t lather up quite as much as others I’ve tried. I still get a nice froth going, but my hair does get significantly more tangled if I manhandle my hair in the way that I usually do when washing it. Normally when I use my Wet Brush after stepping out of the shower my hair is relatively easy to brush through. If I use the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo sans-conditioner, even my gentle Wet Brush has a difficult time combing through my knotted wet hair. I believe this is due to the fact that I’m being too rough for the amount of lather I get while washing my hair. I’ve since begun to use this shampoo with conditioner and it is much easier to brush through, but since I don’t own any natural conditioners I feel like I’m defeating the purpose of using a shampoo that comes with natural benefits. I would like to try out one of Maple Holistics’s conditioners soon so I don’t feel like a total hypocrite!

Despite the fact that my hair initially gnarls, I wake up with the softest hair I’ve ever had every morning after it has had the night to dry. Before using this shampoo, my hair would tend to look oily after showering at nighttime and sleeping when it’s still wet, but strangely enough my hair looks perfect when I wake up after using the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. I usually hate touching my hair throughout the day as it just makes it looks even more oily, but I can’t resist feeling how silky smooth my hair is after using this shampoo!

I have also noticed that I haven’t been itching my scalp to nearly the same extent I was pre-Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. Dandruff is essentially a non-factor now that I’m not lifting up dead skin every time I scratch my scalp. I really believe the shampoo’s claim that it eliminates dead skin from the scalp as it has already had a marked improvement on my scalp and hair’s health after using it for just two weeks. Scalp scabs are a thing of the past for me now!

This shampoo was my first true delve into the natural beauty world, and I was honestly a little nervous. However, I was greatly impressed by the effect this shampoo had on me. I am eager to try out more natural beauty products now that I know they work well for me.
