Happy Wednesday, beauties!
Just as tides change in the sea, so do makeup trends. A few years ago an all matte base was all the rage, but now we bathe ourselves in highlighter. Thus, matte liquid lipsticks quickly gained popularity, I knew the pendulum was due to swing some time soon.
Lately I've been seeing brands put out more lip gloss options on the makeup market. I've also seen people rediscover their old favorites that were buried in the back of their Alex Ikea storage unit. Lip glosses are making a comeback just in time for summer when our lips are begging to be free of oppressive, heavy matte liquid lipstick layers.
I'll be the first to admit that I used to absolutely despise lip glosses. I always thought of them as thick, sticky, goopy lacquers straight out of the early 2000s. However, brands have really stepped it up with their lip gloss formulations, and lately I find myself reaching for my few glosses much more often.
Here are a few options that I have in my humble collection of lip glosses:
Nyx Butter Gloss: These feel quite creamy with just the hiniest hint of stickiness on the lips. These have somewhat of a lighter coverage that is perfect for days when you want just a subtle flush on color on the lips. There's a huge shade range that's bound to contain something for everyone. Plus they smell like heavenly cake!
Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss: This is definitely my stickiest gloss in my collection, but for good reason! It is easily the longest-lasting out of the few glosses I own. I truly do not understand what magic ingredient is in this that make a gloss last over 8 hours, but it's amazing. The formula also keeps my lips moist all day long and the pigmentation is much stronger than my Butter Glosses. Unfortunately Stila is discontinuing this formula, so go pick up some shades while they're still available (for cheap!) on Stila's website.
Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lip: The Colourpop lip gloss formula is like a lovechild between the Butter Gloss and the Stay All Day Gloss. They have the high pigmentation of the Stay All Day Gloss but the stickiness, or lack thereof, of the Butter Gloss. In fact, I find these to be even less sticky than my Butter Glosses. The formula is thick but not heavy; instead, it is creamy and conditioning on the lips. It also leaves a super pretty stain behind when the shine wears off rather than eliminating any trace of color on your lips whatsoever.
